realMyst Coming To iOS, Replaces Static Images With Natural Motion

March 1, 2012
If you're anything like me (and you'd better hope to high heaven you're not!), you probably puzzled over quite a bit of Myst back in the day. Cyan Worlds' seminal PC adventure offered an experience unlike any other, and, though very limited in interactive nature, playing the game was like playing a dream. Still, while the classic's been ported countless times over the years, no version -- not even the well-rated iOS release -- has lived up to the mystery and magic of the original. Fortunately, Myst's developer hasn't given up on the franchise. With its realMyst remake finally coming to iOS, Cyan Worlds is serving up a more lifelike representation of the familiar game, where static images are replaced by full 3D environments, and dynamic lighting and flowing motion bring everything to vibrant life. Fortunately, the title retains the casual gameplay vibe of its forebear, though point-and-click has necessarily become tap-and-drag. Check out the demo (via Touch Arcade): Though I played Myst for countless hours in my youth, I never actually beat the game (without cheating like crazy). Maybe this time I'll actually be able to wrap my head around all the riddles.
