Restring Your Bow And Prepare For The Hunger Games: Girl On Fire
March 21, 2012
I have to start this article with a confession. I recently read a kids book. Some like to justify this activity by calling this a book for "young adults," but let's face it, it's a kids book. I am, however, not ashamed of this. I read this book because it's a fantastic read. It's also, on many accounts, a fantastic film now and looks set to explode.
I am of course referring to The Hunger Games. To tie-in with the books and the new film, a Hunger Games app is to be released over the next few days. The game will be called The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire.
Unfortunately most film tie-in titles are poor and rarely offer much fun to those that purchase it. The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire will be the same won't it? It turns out, thankfully, no!
The guys at TouchArcade recently had a chance to try some extensive testing of the game and posted this interesting video of their gameplay:
The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire is an endless running game, like Canabalt or Temple Run in a way, though the game goes far beyond what's usual for this genre. For instance, if you hit an object, it's not an instant game over. You lose a little momentum, and a little health, but both return over time.
The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire adds another dimension to the gameplay found in most endless running titles. You have the ability to attack some of the creatures you come across or you can choose to jump between the ground and the tree line and out of danger, for the time being at least.
If you have read The Hunger Games (and if you have't shame on you!), you will know that the decision to fight or avoid the dangers facing you is very appropriate for a game based on this book and really adds to the enjoyment.
Keep an eye on AppAdvice for a full review of the game once it has been released and until then, sharpen your knives, The Hunger Games will soon begin!
