Elegant YaPlayer Update Brings Retina Support
April 10, 2012
The Retina display on the new iPad, and the older display of the iPhone 4 and 4S, are truly beautiful to behold. It seems that each day yet another app receives an update to take true advantage of the Retina ready devices.
Today is no different. The latest app to receive a Retina update comes in the shape of yaPlayer ($1.99) from Semix2. The yaPlayer app has been updated to version 2.0 and this update brings some nice new additions.
If you are not familiar with yaPlayer, or just want a brief overview of the changes in 2.0, the developer recently released a quick video on their Vimeo channel:

As previously mentioned, the new update for yaPlayer brings with it Retina support for the new iPad. This is a very welcome addition indeed, and looks great in action.
The app is now also universal, allowing video playback between both your iPhone and iPad. The remaining tweaks and changes are quite small, such as the ability to double tap to zoom, though together they make a nice package.
The App Store is overflowing with video playback apps, all with varying price tags and features. The yaPlayer app may not be the best, but it's far from the worst. With a great, unique control interface, and new Retina support, yaPlayer is a good solution if you are on a budget.
Have any of you tried yaPlayer? Do you think the 2.0 update is enough to stave off the competition?
