Everyone is anxiously waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1. Sadly, I am not here to tell you that the jailbreak has arrived. Still, I bring good news with the latest version of RedSn0w. Update 0.9.10b8 is available now, and while the name isn't the most catchy thing I have ever heard, the update itself is rather awesome.
The latest version of the popular jailbreak tool adds the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Corona A5 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1, and a whole slew of other features.
If you accidentally uninstall the Corona jailbreak, RedSn0w can easily reinstall it for you. They also added support for downloading SHSH blobs from Cydia, making it easier for users to restore to a previous version of iOS.
I think the coolest feature of this update is the expanded device information section. It will now tell you more than ever about the connected device. For example, if you own an iPhone 3G, it will tell you what kind of bootloader you have on your device and whether it is exploitable.
This update also hints at some exciting features to come in the near future. The next update will have built in device restoring support, which removes iTunes from the equation. This could make restoring your device a much quicker and more efficient process for many users.
The update is available now, and can be downloaded here (Windows) and here (Mac).
