Jailbreak Only: Sparrow+ To Make Sparrow Even Better

April 27, 2012
Last month, we reviewed a highly anticipated email app, Sparrow. Although we love the app, it's missing one feature that would make us rid the stock Mail app from our phones if we could: Push notifications. Prior to Sparrow's launch in App Store, it was pulled by Apple for "abusing" a VOIP-only API that would continuously run in the background. Unfortunately, this meant no push notifications (yet), but Sparrow's developers had this to say on the matter: "Push is coming. With or without Apple." There was hope for jailbreakers in the form of a tweak called "Sparrow Push." Even with Sparrow Push, we're left wanting more, but due to Apple's restrictions, what we want will likely never be possible: Sparrow as our default email app. Fortunately, that is about to change as iDownloadBlog's Jeff Benjamin shows in this preview of a new tweak called "Sparrow+": With Sparrow+, any action that would normally launch the Mail app will launch Sparrow instead. In addition to making Sparrow the default email app, Sparrow+ also brings push notifications with Notification Center integration, which Sparrow Push lacks. There's no word on when this tweak will be released, but the good news is that it should be available for free. As always, we'll keep you posted. If my iPhone wasn't already jailbroken, I would jailbreak it just for this tweak. How about you? Do you use Sparrow? Would you benefit from these features?
