In Final Space, The Universe Needs You To Clean Up The Yard
Final Space ($1.99) by ABInteractive is a fast-paced tunnel racer that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Strap into this ride and see how long you can last against asteroids and aliens.
Players start off in the “Solar System” where the goal is to clean up the area near various space stations. Asteroids have gathered too close and need to be destroyed. Players race through a tunnel in their fighter spaceship and blast away at the oncoming rocks.
The game is on auto run, so players don’t control the speed at which they fly. However, they are able to maneuver the ship within the tunnel so they can better aim at approaching asteroids. It is fairly difficult to destroy a space rock and sometimes you’ll run into it with your ship before your blaster has been able to annihilate it.
There are 48 levels across three galaxies and each level gets progressively more difficult. There are different goals for each mission as well. Sometimes, players must destroy a certain number of asteroids within a specific amount of time. Other times, players must meet minimum goals, like five asteroids at a time, and then they progress to the next section of the mission.
Players earn money, or “credits,” for destroying asteroids. Think of yourself as a gardener to the galaxies. With the money earned, players can upgrade their weapons and buy new ones to help with the clean-up job. Credits are hard to come by, so you can use real cash to buy them through in-app purchases.
This is a fun game, but it is very difficult to earn credits. The very first upgrade will cost you 10,000 credits and you have to get at least one star on a level to earn anything. You can’t earn credits for replaying a level unless you do better than the previous time. There is a point at which the game is so difficult that the only way you could progress is to buy a better gun, but you can’t afford the gun because you can’t pass the level. It seems like the game was set up to make you think you don’t have to pay real money for in-game credits, but it sort of forces you to.
Overall, it is a fun game. It is fast-paced and fun to play. The graphics are pretty nice on the Retina supported iPad screen. The price tag is reasonable. However, the fact that you can’t really get very far without buying in-game credits with real cash makes it less than awesome. Maybe I just really suck at this game, but I’d tread lightly. You may not be able to play much of this game without having to pony up a few extra bucks.
