Triple Trouble ($0.99) by polynauten.com is a match three game mixed with a physics puzzler. According to the story, the monsters, aka Triples, come from the planet Triglax, which was destroyed when a star exploded and created a swirling vortex that sucked them all up and sent them to a strange new planet.

The Triples have become lost and scattered across a new universe, and it’s your job to reunite them in groups of three or more so that they can be teleported back to their own world.

The goal in the game, then, is to match three or more Triples to create a combo, which clears them from the board. You will need to make matches by launching Triples one by one onto the level, which is done by aiming and flinging them with a swipe. You will need to toss them carefully and match up each color in order to clear a group.

Each level will require you to match three groups of Triples in order to move on. This is a simple game, so it never gets particularly hard, though levels do get tricky with all kinds of barriers, from spinning bars to wheels and springs.

Levels also contain a special flower to gather, and you will earn points for every Triple that you clear. If you manage to make a match with four or five Triples, you will get a huge score bonus. Launching Triples off of the board will cost you 10 points for every one lost, and a total of 1500 points is needed to finish each level perfectly for the three star award.

Getting the three star award almost always requires at least one four-Triple match up, which can be challenging during some of the levels with smaller platforms and lots of moving parts.

The game has 12 different settings and 48 levels, which are colorful, but unimpressive. The graphics are pixellated and the game does not look great on the new iPad, so it’s definitely in need of an update for the Retina display, and the same goes for the iPhone version. Triple Trouble has leaderboards and achievements to earn, but if you’re looking at getting this game to earn points, be warned - those achievements are only worth a single point each.

Triple Trouble is a game that’s easy to beat, so it’s perfect for casual gamers and it’s also a great choice for children. If you’re a serious gamer looking for a challenge, I’d go ahead and skip this one, but if you’re looking for a family friendly game, this is a decent option.
