Zip Zap Zooms Into The App Store, Download It For Free
Zip Zap (Free) by Industry Corporation is a survival game set in the far reaches of outer space. Destroy oncoming asteroids by crashing into them before they reach the space station’s hull and turn it into dust.
This game is not entirely unlike an endless shooter except that, instead of shooting, players crash into the target. Players control either Zip or Zap as he (or she) flies around space, destroying asteroids. To do so, simply tap the spot you want the character to move. Not only will Zip or Zap eliminate the target, but every other asteroid that was in the way.
As asteroids are destroyed, the area that Zip (or Zap) must protect grows larger and the number of rocks increases. The space station has its own laser weapons to help fend off the attack, but the lasers can’t keep everything away, so it is your job to clear the area as best you can.
There are four bonus items to help stop the asteroids from making it to the space station. The Shield Boost will cause Zip (or Zap)’s protective shield to grow to twice as larger, making it easier to crush nearby rocks. The Stasis Field slows all asteroids down. The repair kit will regenerate health for the space station. The Concussion bomb blows up all rocks nearby.
In addition to single-player mode, players can join together in multiplayer mode. Either compete against your friend in tabletop versus mode, or team up to take on the asteroids in co-op mode. The only difference between the two modes is the scoring.
The graphics are not too amazing and the gameplay is fairly simple, but what do you expect for free. The major problem I have with this game is that the ad banner sits right in the field of play, causing players to accidently tap the ad on a regular basis. I’ve said it before. I don’t think there is anything wrong with ad banners. They benefit everyone, but placement is the key to a good or bad free game. This one is bad. The developers need to reconsider placing it on the side that the space station sits on, or somewhere else that is not in the field of play.
Overall, this is a surprisingly good app considering it is free. It is entertaining and even challenging at times. The graphics are not much to look at, but not terrible either. The tabletop multiplayer mode makes the game worth downloading. The ad banner needs to be moved out of the field of play, but other than that, it is a respectable freebie. Download it today. You’ve got nothing to lose but a couple of megs of space.
