United Soft Media, the German developers behind the iOS version of Settlers of Catan (simply Catan and Catan HD in the App Store), have just released some screenshots of their upcoming title, Rivals of Catan. This new release will be a reworked version of the Catan Card game, which happens to be based on Settlers of Catan. Confused? The original Settlers of Catan is a multiplayer board game, in which the players take the roles of settlers and compete to be the first to reach a set number of points earned by increasing the size of their settlements. Eventually, Settlers of Catan had a spinoff which eventually became the Catan Card Game, which has a simplified focus on Settlers of Catan's territory building aspect of gameplay. Details are scarce at the moment, but as TouchArcade reports, USM has stated that Rivals of Catan "will be a universal app that's going to have both two player local and online multiplayer." Currently, USM's Catan and Catan HD have thousands of five star ratings in the App Store. Their next take on an old classic will be sure to please. To get a feel for the gameplay of the Catan Games, you can find Catan and Catan HD in the App Store for $4.99 each.
