Drifter Needs A Kickstart

May 4, 2012
You may recall an article in March introducing you to Drifter. The game is under development by Celsius Game Studios, the one man operation behind the excellent Red Nova. Drifter was originally planned as an iOS only title, but developer Colin Walsh has decided to call on the power of the Kickstarter community to help him bring the title to the Mac and PC. The aim is to reach $50,000 over the next month. Colin posted a short video, as part of his Kickstarter project, detailing what he hopes to achieve through using the service: If you cannot view the embedded video above, it is also available by clicking here. Drifter is going to be an open world sandbox trading game, drawing inspiration from classic titles such as Elite, Frontier and Privateer. According to the Kickstarter page for Drifter, you can:
Live the simple life of a merchant, become a bounty hunter, take on work for hire, become a fearsome pirate, or simply explore the galaxy around you, the choice is yours.
Colin feels his game deserves far more than just "canned royalty free music," so he teamed up with renowned video game composer Danny Baranowsky. Danny is well known for creating the music for Super Meat Boy, Canabalt, and many other popular indie titles. The rewards being offered for potential investors are pretty impressive. These range from a pack of backgrounds based on the Drifter poster for just $1, up to having a whole star system named after you for $1,000. There is something for everyone here, whatever the size of your wallet. If you feel that it is about time the space trading genre had a resurgence, show Colin your support now. If the project receives enough of a response, we could see Drifter launch simultanously across iOS, Mac and PC soon. I, for one, cannot wait to get my hands on this little gem.
