Set The Jailbird Free In ChickenBreak
ChickenBreak ($0.99) by CGMatic Co., Ltd. sees if you can help a frantic fowl escape from prison. You’ll need your wits about you as you karate kick missiles, slide under pendulums, and jump over shark traps.
Combine two of Halfbrick’s best games, Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, toss in a convicted chicken, and you have this game. I can unabashedly say this is my new favorite endless runner game.
From the very first moment when you see a gate closing, as you run toward it in a first person point-of-view, you know this is going to be an entertaining game.
While not a Halfbrick title, it’s hard not to see the similarities between the various prison backgrounds and the laboratory backgrounds found in Jetpack Joyride. The various missiles certainly support that as well.
The Fruit Ninja aspect comes into play when swiping the missiles (especially striking three or more to make a combo). You’ll also want to watch out for falling bombs.
Perhaps the most challenging part about playing is switching gestures constantly. The missile attacks appear to be the most common, so there will be a lot of swiping, but getting too comfortable means you might not hit the jump button in time.
You’ll especially need to keep your vigilance up because the jump or slide buttons only appear when they are needed, and they’ll need to be used at the right moment.
Keep a sharp eye out for a red exclamation mark to help with the timing.
Collect as many credits as you can because you can cash them in for extra life or extra protection.
Game Center support is added, complete with a leaderboard and achievements. The ranking on the board is actually determined by how many consecutive prisons (levels) you can complete before dying, rather than a high score.
From the zany animation to the hectic soundtrack, there’s nothing to dislike about this game. Don’t be a chicken. Get it now!
