Rescue Chicks In Hareep
Hareep ($1.99) by Touchwow tests your puzzle solving abilities. Poor momma Hareep’s chicks are trapped behind a series of obstacles.
What is a Hareep? She’s looks like an Angry Bird, but she’s not into the whole “launcher” thing.
Instead, guide Hareep successfully through a maze of lasers to reach the chicks at the other side.
The lasers tend to stretch from one end of the level to the other. Touching them results in Kentucky Fried Hareep.
Different cards can be picked up that will go into your inventory bar at the bottom of the screen. An item will be on each card that you can deploy anywhere on the screen you’d like in order to bypass the lasers.
Some of the tools of the trade include: wrenches (for adjusting which direction the laser faces), mirrors (for bouncing the beam), and bombs (sometimes you just have blow up the darned things).
Savvy players, though can use the items to kill two birds (not Hareeps) with one stone. For example, bouncing a mirror into a laser emitter will destroy it.
I like puzzle games, and I must say this one gave me a run for my money. The game has a deceptively simple look to it, but passing each level took me at least three restarts.
The tools are stuck once you’ve deployed them, so you have to use them wisely. Your inventory is extremely minimal.
My one qualm about the game is the apparent inconsistency with how the mirrors work.
Each card may have the mirror angled in a certain direction, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to get the lasers out of your way.
However, even using the right angled mirror doesn’t always seem to get the same result. I was never quite sure which direction the laser would bounce until I actually placed the mirror.
More options for the game open up after passing 10 of the levels. Not only can you download maps other users have created, but you can make your own to share as well.
I would love to tell you what it looks like, but I’m stuck on level seven at the moment.
Those looking for a challenge combined with entertaining graphics will definitely flock toward this game.
