If You Loved How To Train Your Dragon, You Won’t Want To Miss DreamWorks Dragons: TapDragonDrop

May 5, 2012

DreamWorks Dragons: TapDragonDrop ($1.99) by PikPok is an adorable puzzle game based on the DreamWorks movie How to Train Your Dragon. You might think that there’s not much substance to a game based on a movie, and while that’s often the case, TapDragonDrop is a game that can stand on its own.

I thought How to Train Your Dragon was one of DreamWorks’ most endearing titles, so the reappearance of the main characters, Hiccup and Toothless, was a welcome sight in the game.

In TapDragonDrop, a powerful storm has struck the Viking village, so it’s up to you, Toothless, and Hiccup to gather up the helpless sheep that have been scattered across the land and herd them home by solving puzzle after puzzle.

Each level will have several wandering sheep, and a wooden cage. Your job is to drive the sheep into the cage, using your dragon shout to herd them.

The left side of the screen has a series of badges, and each one causes your dragon to perform a particular move. He can roar to drive sheep left or right (depending on where you place the badge), destroy trees with fire, pick up items like rocks and logs, and ram barriers to destroy them.

Gameplay consists of using a finger to drag these badges to the appropriate spots in the level to destroy barriers and herd sheep in the right direction.

Herding sheep will get increasingly difficult as new obstacles are introduced, such as steep cliffs, gaps in the terrain, bodies of water and more. You have to figure out how to use each ability and when to use it in order to solve the puzzles.

When you finish a puzzle, you will earn a star. You’ll also get stars for saving all of the sheep, and completing the level in a set number of moves. Getting the highest score is dependent on finishing the game in the most efficient way.

This game is never difficult, because you don’t need stars to finish a level and you can easily skip levels. Kids and adults alike will have no problem playing TapDragonDrop.

TapDragonDrop has clever gameplay and great controls, but its best feature is easily its crisp, colorful graphics, and of course, you can’t go wrong with super cute dragons.

My only complaint about this game is the length - it felt short for the price. There are only 40 levels, and they go by quickly. When you finish all the content, there’s an extra level pack, but it felt like the initial game should have had a bit more gameplay.

Overall, this is a great casual game that’s perfect for the whole family. If you’re a fan of How to Train Your Dragon, I highly recommend checking out TapDragonDrop.
