Track 8 ($1.99) by Ender Labs provides a clean and beautiful interface on the iPad. Apple’s music player app has been given a run for its money.

Sporting a “metro” design, the app shows all of your albums as thumbnails. They are bunched together by categories, including: history, new, and most played.

You can also find songs by switching to the artist, album, or playlist tabs.

But perhaps the fastest way of finding that certain song you’re looking for is the magnifying glass in the top right corner. Start typing the first few letters of the song you’d like to hear, and chances are you’ll find it within a second.

The settings menu allows you to change the background from either being dark or light, along with 10 different accent colors to select. There are 13 wallpaper options to choose from, each of them a winner.

A really cool feature is the option of showing artist images in the background. The images are pulled from the last.fm site and will cache for faster retrieval the next time around.

Having the background picture of the artist provides the song with just a little bit more of the experience.

While playing a song, you can advance forward or backward to songs, though you’re limited to either the album or playlist you’ve opened. It’d be cool if you could shuffle through your whole library.

One of the main things I dislike about the iPad’s default music player is how unresponsive it is. Activating the pause button (especially when going back into the app) takes more effort than it should.

There’s also no customization at all, unlike this app, which offers different wallpaper and background options.

I highly recommend this app, especially for those who are as fed up with his or her iPad’s music player as much as I am.
