Straight Talk: Talk About A Cheap iPhone Plan!
May 4, 2012
While the iPhone continues its slow march toward a future of general operator ubiquity, the handset's been quietly available for ages on Walmart's Straight Talk service.
Kind of.
While you can't get an iPhone directly from the MVNO, you can purchase a new or used GSM iPhone and activate it via your package of choice on Sam's discount network. All you've got to do is sign up with Straight Talk, pick your piggybacked carrier (in this case AT&T), and pop in the supplied micro-SIM.
Why go to all that trouble when you could just walk into any AT&T or Verizon store and get a subsidized iPhone instead? Price, silly! Explains iDownloadBlog:
[Straight Talk] easily undercuts the larger carriers by $50 or more with its $45 all-you-can-eat plan. That’s unlimited voice minutes, text messaging and HSPA+ data. Wow.Wow indeed! If my parents weren't still including me on their family plan (Jobs bless 'em), I'd be hitting up my local Walmart right now. They're open 24/7, you know.
