The Nesting Learning Thermostat Launches In Apple Stores

May 30, 2012
The Nesting Learning Thermostat is now available in Apple Stores. The $249.95 device is the creation of Tony Fadell, the “father of the iPod.” First launched in October by Nest, and called the “only thermostat that improves with time,” the Nesting Learning Thermostat programs itself based on your location and where the device resides in your household. In the process, the thermostat turns itself down whenever you’re away. Nest claims you’ll save 20 percent on your heating or cooling bill by using the thermostat. In 2001, Fadell was hired by Apple to run their new iPod and Special Projects group. He was promoted to vice president of iPod engineering in 2004. In 2006, he became senior vice president of the iPod division. He left Apple in 2008. Fadell and Matt Rogers founded Nest in 2010. Nest Mobile, the app that can control the thermostat, is free in the App Store and can be used on either an iPhone or iPad. With its latest update, the app now has Retina support.
