TiVo Streaming Coming To iOS
May 22, 2012
A decade ago, pausing live television meant owning a TiVo. Now, the original DVR is set to launch a new product especially for their iOS customers, according to ZDNet.
Coming later this year will be the TiVo Stream, a simple way to stream video content from your DVR to your iDevice. The service, which will require an external transcoder device, will work with a TiVo Premiere or Premiere Q DVR.
Best of all, the external transcoder will let customers download shows to their iPhone or iPad for offline viewing.
According to the report, the company “claims that the TiVo Stream is the first product to enable streaming (or downloading) shows simultaneously to multiple devices without interrupting what’s playing on the television.”
While not specifically mentioned in the report, TiVo’s streaming package will almost certainly work with their TiVo app. First launched in January 2011, the free app currently works primarily as a remote control. However, to date, the app doesn’t actually allow video streaming.
Once TiVo's streaming service arrives, we'll be sure to let you know. Most likely, we'll see a fall launch.
Do you still use TiVo? Excited about this news?
