Innkeeper HD Is An Engrossing Hotel Management Game

June 22, 2012

Innkeeper HD ($0.99) by Monkey Eater is an inn management game with adorable graphics and solid gameplay, but it does have a few bugs.

The game takes place in Siquijor, Phillipines at a tropical resort. There’s a rumor going around that the area is populated with scary monsters, which has driven potential tourists away from the island.

It’s your job to build a thriving inn that will once again attract customers to the hotel, morphing it from a one star dump into a five star resort.

This is not like typical hotel management games, because the focus is on creating an appealing place for customers, rather than directing customers to rooms and providing them with service manually.

You build the rooms, the amenities, and supply the help, but beyond that, the hotel runs itself on a daily basis. Customers are checked in, visit their rooms, and take advantage of room service all without your help.

I’ve played a lot of hotel management games, and I have to say, I thought that Innkeeper HD was both unique and a lot of fun thanks to this mechanic.

There are several different room types to construct, and each room can be furnished with different amenities. Customers each have preferences on what types of items they want in their rooms, so to cater to their individual wants, you need to work on building a variety of rooms for all types of people.

For example, one customer might prefer rooms with televisions and refrigerators, while another wants a computer and a couch. Building rooms that appeal to customers increases their happiness with their stay in the hotel, raising your own hotel score.

In addition to room amenities, customers have other hotel preferences as well. You can build things like restaurants, computer rooms, game rooms, and laundry facilities, and each customer prefers a different combination of things.

The game will give you a series of goals to complete, such as attracting a set number of bachelors, or getting a 3-star rating from 20 customers. There’s always a goal to finish, and completing these goals will unlock new game elements and level up the inn.

There’s a lot going on in this game and it’s quite engrossing, but it does have some issues that need to be resolved. The fast forwarding mechanic is not functioning properly for me and the game is in need of a better tutorial and more information on some of the underlying mechanics in the game.

It was not clear how to move between floors and it was also not clear how many rooms to build and how many amenities to build to improve my game.

Innkeeper HD is a solid inn management game, and if you enjoy these types of games, you will likely have fun with this one.
