Splashtop Remote Desktop For iPad App Gets Impressive Update
June 27, 2012
Splashtop Inc. has announced the release of Splashtop 2.0 for iPad. The remote desktop app now includes “Bridging Cloud” technology, allowing users to connect to their remote computers more securely and with a better optimized networking experience.
First launched for iPad in 2011, Splashtop allows tablet and smartphone users to remotely access their Mac and Windows PCs. In doing so, users can remotely run applications, view and edit files, watch HD movies, and play graphic-intensive games.
Splashtop 2.0 now includes a new interface and has been optimized for the new iPad’s Retina display. Additionally, the app now supports up to 30 frames per second of streaming and sub-30-ms latency, providing for a smoother video and more responsive gaming experience.
With Splashtop 2, the only configuration needed to connect to computers is a user name and password. There is no need to configure routers or firewalls, or to manually enter IP addresses or security codes. With the addition of the Anywhere Access Pack, the same simple process lets users connect to their devices reliably from anywhere in the world, over the Internet.
Finally, the app uses self-optimizing technology that adapts to the conditions of the network, enabling the user to take full advantage of the bandwidth of a 3G network or Internet connection. In addition to protecting user data through its proprietary Bridging Cloud, Splashtop deploys industry-standard encryption technology to maintain a high level of security.
According to Mark Lee, Splashtop CEO and co-founder:
Security and privacy are no longer merely corporate concerns. Regular people like you and me also need to be reassured that our data is always safe and secure – every file on every device, everywhere and everyday. Splashtop 2 offers that peace of mind.Take a look: For a limited time Splashtop for iPad is specially priced at $1.99, or $8 off its normal price. The Anywhere Access Pack, which is needed to use the app across a 3G network, is available for an in-app purchase price of $0.99 per month or $9.99 per year. This add-on will also work with Splashland for iPhone and on the Splashtop's line of Android products without the need to make additional purchases. Named by Apple as a "Top 20 best-selling iPad app in 2011," Splashland has long been a popular choice for those looking for a remote control solution for their iDevice. The app's new version, with its security and networking features, will likely make it even more so. The Splashland for iPad app is available now in the App Store.According to the app's release notes, "Splashtop 2 requires the downloading and installation of the free Splashtop Streamer software onto a Window PC or a Mac. Supported platforms: Windows 7, Vista, and XP (including Home Premium), Mac OS X 10.6+ (Snow Leopard or Lion is required for Mac users). A computer with dual-core CPU is recommended for best performance. The purchase of Splashtop 2 includes a license to access up to 2 computers."
