Does The Spike Case Push Your Buttons?

July 9, 2012
Apple screwed up by not giving the iPhone a physical keyboard. I'm just kidding, but if the iPhone's keyboard sound effects just don't push the right buttons for you, maybe the Spike is what you need. If successfully funded, this Kickstarter project will be available in two variants (Spike 1 and Spike 2), both adding a physical keyboard to your iPhone. Spike 1 is a two-part case. The bottom half (with the keyboard) must be detached, rotated, then reattached when you want to use the keyboard, which can be flipped aside for fullscreen input. Spike 2 is much less cumbersome, featuring a special hinge that allows the keyboard to be stowed in the back of the case when not in use. Perhaps it's best to just show you the Spike in action: Using "TypeSmart" technology allows the Spike to work without Bluetooth or any type of power source, which is likely why it can be offered for as much as most standalone iPhone cases. For more information on the Spike, visit Kickstarter. A pledge of $25 will get you the Spike 1, while the Spike 2 will set you back $50. There's a little more than a month left for the Spike to reach its $75,000 goal. It's expected to ship this September, but "Future Proof" backing options are available for the new iPhone. I've got nothing against physical keyboards, but I do have something against my iPhone looking like a Blackberry. So, I think I'll pass on this one. Do you have any gripes with the iPhone's virtual keyboard?
