Handmade Highlights: These iOS Cases Are A Hoot!

July 26, 2012
Handmade Highlights is a new bi-weekly series that I’ll be doing to showcase some of the best iPhone and iPad products from independent artists, crafters, and designers, who often don’t get the recognition that they deserve. There are some great mainstream cases out there, but often, if you want something unique and a bit different, handmade is the way to go. This week, I’m sharing these ridiculously cute owl cases from Etsy seller Ohmycake, who is a talented lady indeed, and definitely knows the secret to selling products - but a bird on it! Each of these cases, which can be purchased for the iPhone or the iPad, is hand cut and hand sewn from felt. This talented craftster can make one of these sleeves for any size iPad or iPhone, and she’s even able to accomodate one of Apple’s Smart Covers or other similar thin device covers.

Sleeves are constructed with two layers of felt on each side with foam inside, for maximum device protection. A secure velcro strap or button closure keeps your iPad or iPhone inside the case, but also allows for quick access. And the best part? You can choose your own customized colors, at no extra charge. Rainbow owl? No problem. Black and white? Easy peasy.

Ohmycake also specializes in a few other designs, including this sweet little toast and this Domokun-style sleeve. Adorable, right? Her cases run from $19 for the iPhone version to $40 for the iPad version, so they won’t break the bank.

If you’re looking for something animalistic but a bit less cutesy, check out these equally well made iPad and iPhone sleeves from a different Etsy seller, which are priced between $69 and $76. The fox sleeve looks meticulously crafted, as does the penguin. In my humble opinion, no manufactured sleeve looks even remotely impressive as these designs.

That brings this week’s Handmade Highlights to and end. I’d love to hear your feedback, and if you know of a great craftperson or an amazing handmade iPad or iPhone item that you’d like to see featured on the site, get in touch!
