Relax With The Charming Puzzles Found In Seq

July 27, 2012

Seq (Free) by Nuage touch is a new kind of puzzle game that should find a place on everyone’s iPhone or iPad. As I said in my Slydris review, I am a total sucker for these types of games, and Seq is something that hasn't been done before.

I've become a big fan of Nuage touch recently, especially after they released apps like Snaptime and Task, so I was pretty excited to hear that they had a game coming. Just like their other apps, Seq features a very minimalistic interface that is straight to the point and nothing more.

When you launch the game, you get a very plain title screen, instructing you to “tap to play,” or you can just swipe the screen. There are a total of eight different level packs, each with 20 puzzles to clear. The initial download will give you the first two packs for free, but then you will have to purchase the Medium or Hard level pack (three each) at $0.99 a pop.

The gameplay of Seq is extremely easy: you connect a start tile (indicated by a number) to an end tile (with a zero) by tracing over them, thus making a sequence. When there are multiple sequences to be made, you will have to figure them out and fill out the entire grid. Sometimes a number is already filled out on the grid to give you a hint of what you should do. Tiles can be used in multiple sequences and the path for two or more chains can cross. If you make an error, just double tap on a tile to rewind, or retrace your path in the opposite direction.

While there is no music in Seq, you will hear a soothing melody as you connect tiles, that is, if you can solve them quick enough. If you take your time, you will just hear a different sound for each tile. It’s rather charming, and can actually help you figure out the pattern.

There are no points or time limits to worry about — Seq just has relaxing gameplay that will make you think. You will have to clear a level in order to move on to the next though, so don’t think that you can just play whatever level you’d like at any time, even if you purchase the other levels.

I found this game to be a fun time killer. It's also pretty great to not have to worry about anything besides just solving the puzzle — Blockwick is also a great example of this.

If you’re looking for a fun puzzle to check out this week, then make it Seq. It’s free and will keep you perplexed for a while, especially if you have a total of 160 levels from the two in-app purchase packs.
