Snap Spot: Create Panning Time Lapse Videos With Your iPhone Using The Camalapse

August 28, 2012
Last week on Snap Spot we covered an awesome vintage-style camera case called the iPhone Rangefinder (by the way, keep an eye out for our hands-on review next week) and this week, we’ve got another great product from Photojojo, the Camalapse.

Time lapse videos may not immediately come to mind when you think of your iPhone, but it is truly an amazing device that allows you to perform the same impressive tricks that you can do with a standard digital camera. With the Camalapse, you can create smooth, panning timelapse videos, capturing anything you can imagine. Create an amazing montage of the day from sunrise to sunset, or the entirety of a rainstorm. The possibilities are endless. How does it work? The idea is pretty simple. The Camalapse is a simple rotating iPhone stand that works with a standard tripod adapter (try Photojojo’s own Glif if you don’t already own an iPhone tripod).

You attach the iPhone to the tripod adapter, point the camera lens where you want it to end up, give the stand a simple twist, and it’s ready to go. The Camalapse will rotate 90 degrees in 15 minutes, and it will do a full 360 degree cycle in an hour. The Camalapse can be mounted to any tripod, so you can take it anywhere, capturing moments and memories in an all new way.

You can make the Camalapse experience even better with a great time lapse app, so check out our curated list of the best time lapse camera apps in the App Store. Does the Camalapse have a place in your iPhone accessory arsenal? You can get your own from the Photojojo website for just $25. Add in the Glif for another $20, and you’ll be ready for creating videos. Like the Camalapse? Hate it? I’d love to hear your thoughts. As always, if you have any suggestions for future Snap Spot features, be sure to get in touch!
