Win A Copy Of Ballerburg And Try To Blast Your Opponent Into The Past

August 21, 2012
AppAdvice has teamed up with DonkeyCat, our latest AppAdvice Daily podcast sponsor, in order to offer you a chance to win Ballerburg ($0.99) for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Ballerburg is an artillery game that's truly a blast from the past. Originally released in 1987 for Atari ST, Ballerburg requires you to fire cannons at your opponent's castle in hopes of making a direct hit on their well-guarded king before they do the same to you. But there's much more to the game than just blowing stuff up, as you will also be required to collect taxes from your residents in order to buy new supplies and rebuild your castle. You have some big decisions to make before the game begins. First, you must choose a castle. Each of the six available castles features a unique layout and different start values for money, gunpowder, cannonballs, and population. Then you must choose from one of the seven computer opponents, each of which offers a different challenge and playing style. You can also choose to play locally against a human opponent, or you can watch two computer opponents duke it out and bet on the outcome. During the game you must take turns with your opponent firing your cannons and purchasing new items for your castle. To fire your cannon, just tap on the castle to zoom in, choose the cannon you want to fire from, and then adjust the angle and power of your shot. Make sure to take wind speed into account, otherwise you will just be wasting precious ammo and gunpowder Your turn isn't over once you have fired your cannon, however. You still have the opportunity to replenish supplies and repair damage done to your castle. You can also adjust the tax rate for your residents to either draw more of them into your castle or take in more cash. Keep launching cannonballs and rebuilding your castle until your opponent either admits defeat or loses their king. Ballerburg also includes a full set of instructions in case you weren't around in 1987, a handful of game customization options, retro graphics, and classic sound effects.
