Angry Birds Star Wars Launches On Nov. 8 As A Separate Game
October 8, 2012
When I first heard that Rovio was teaming up with George Lucas to create some sort of Angry Birds-“Star Wars” tie-in, I figured that this would happen through an update to Angry Birds Space. It will not. Instead, it will be an entirely new game.
According to USA Today, Rovio will launch Angry Birds Star Wars on Thursday, Nov. 8. The game, which will be the sixth in the Angry Birds series, will be available for the iPhone/iPod touch, iPad, Android, and computers. It will feature characters from the popular six-film franchise.
According to Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd, these characters will not be “Angry Birds dressed up as “Star Wars” characters.” Instead, “they are characters in their own right.” As such, each will come with personalities “which are kind of similar” to the real characters.
At launch, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi will take on the bird roles. Not surprisingly, Darth Vader and the dark side of the Force will represent the pigs.
"You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers," Southern says.Angry Birds Star Wars sounds interesting and will almost certainly be a big seller. Its arrival will come less than two months after the release of Bad Piggies, Rovio’s current game for iPhone and iPad. It will be the fourth new game released by Rovio in 2012. In addition to Bad Piggies, Angry Birds Space and Amazing Alex were also launched this year. Take a look: Once we get our hands on Angry Birds Star Wars, we'll certainly let you know our thoughts. In the meantime, be sure to checkout Angry Birds Space, and other Rovio games for iOS.
