AT&T Announces iPhone Activations Of 4.7 Million, 77 Percent Of Total

In the just completed quarter, AT&T sold 4.7 million iPhones. This was 77 percent of all mobile subscribers at the nation’s second largest carrier. Additionally, the company reported 1.47 million Android and Windows Phone handset activations, which was a new record. In the previous quarter, AT&T’s iPhone sales were 3.7 million units. According to AT&T’s most recent financial report, the company sold 6.1 million smartphones during July, August, and September. This was an increase of 1.3 million from the same period last year. The company reported earnings of $0.63 per share, or a $3.6 billion profit, on sales of $31.5 billion. Here is AT&T's announcement:

Previously, Verizon Wireless reported that they sold 3.1 million iPhones during the same quarter. Of those, 650,000 were iPhone 5 sales.  In total, the nation’s largest cellular provider announced sales of $29 million. Apple’s earning call is tomorrow, Oct. 25 beginning at 2 p.m. PDT.
