Apple Might Have No Choice But To Take A Bite Out Of Sharp

November 5, 2012
As it struggles to keep operating, Sharp could soon be getting a lifeline from Apple. The display maker is “possibly seeking investments,” from Cupertino according to 9to5Mac. This report follows news earlier that Japan’s Sharp could soon collapse if they cannot cut costs and secure new credit. In May, it was reported that Apple’s largest supplier was buying a stake in the LCD maker. Unfortunately, it now looks like that deal could fall through as Sharp’s stock price continues dropping. Were Sharp to collapse, Apple would be at a loss at a time when they continue to move away from Samsung for their display components. Sharp, Japan Display Inc., and LG Display Co. Ltd. are supplying parts for the iPhone 5. Moving forward, Apple is rumored to be interested in using Sharp’s IGZO display technology in upcoming mobile devices.
