Scam Alert: There Is No Such Thing As A Free iPad mini, Especially On Facebook

November 1, 2012
We wanted to alert you to an iPad mini scam currently causing some problems on Facebook. The scam offers users a “free iPad mini” and a link to what appears to be another Facebook page, according to Sophos, an online security site. The initial message, which claims to be from “Apple Developers (Free iPad mini),” says the following:
Are you a Apple fan ? The Free iPad mini offer is on. Go here - [LINK] to get Free iPad mini.
Once the link is clicked, you'll be asked to give account permission to the scammers. By clicking "allow" this would give them basic account permission, as well as the ability to post on your behalf. Don't do this. Instead, we recommend deleting the original message from your Facebook wall and letting your friends know that this is a fraud. For those folks that want to purchase an iPad mini, but did not pre-order, sales begin tomorrow, Nov. 2. Check back with AppAdvice for further updates. Source: Sophos
