Legacy iPhones Selling Well This Holiday Season
December 3, 2012
Many of our most loyal readers probably replaced their iPhone 4 models long ago. The same goes for the iPhone 4S, which the iPhone 5 replaced in September. However, Apple’s two previous iPhones are still “strong performers,” according to AppleInsider.
Michael Walkley of Canaccord Genuity has found through a channel check that at AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon, the iPhone 5 is now the top-selling smartphone. He also found that the iPhone 4, in particular, is also doing well. In fact, Apple’s fourth generation phone is sold out in many stores.
The reason, of course, is the holiday buying season. The iPhone 4 is available for free with a new two-year service contract. For $99, folks can buy an iPhone 4S. At these price points, both are appealing as gifts.
By the end of 2012, Apple will have launched the iPhone 5 in 100 countries with 240 carriers. Add this to strong sales for legacy models, and Walkley expects Apple to see a “strong multi-year product cycle.”
