Cupertino Hints That The Next Apple TV Could Include A5X Processor, More
January 30, 2013
We’re hearing more about what will likely be the next-generation Apple TV. At the same time that Cupertino pushed out iOS 6.1, they also released an update for the Apple TV 2,1 and 3,1. The release included an image of an unannounced Apple TV 3,2 product with model A1469, according to AnandTech.
This model appears to be smaller than the current Apple TV. More importantly, it includes the A5X processor found on the iPad 3. Also, the next Apple TV could also include the iPhone 5’s single WLAN+Bluetooth antenna.
The A5X chip has two processing cores. However, it also includes quad-core graphics. It will be interesting to see what Apple does with this.
Apple is rumored to be working on a new set-top box for the living room. Additionally, there has been much talk that this will finally be the year that Cupertino releases an actual television, the so-called iTV.
The $99 Apple TV was last updated in March. In other words, if you happen to be in the market for an Apple TV, it might be wise to wait.
