Admit It, Samsung's Super Bowl Ad Is Funny Even Though It Pokes Fun At Apple

February 1, 2013
You’ve got to hand it to the folks responsible for Samsung’s advertising. They have certainly found ways to criticize Apple without being nasty about it. Case in point, is a new teaser for the company’s Super Bowl advertisement that will air during Sunday’s championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens. The ad, which we’ve posted here, features comedians Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, and Bob Odenkirk. In it, they are brainstorming potential ideas for Samsung’s “Big Game” advertisement. The ad never mentions Apple. However, it takes less than five seconds to figure out who the joke is on. For 60 seconds, the three jokesters go back and forth about how certain words cannot be used in the Super Bowl ad because of trademark concerns. Naturally, this is a direct jab at Apple who has sued the Korean company often in recent years claiming patent infringement. Take a look:

This is a great ad. It reminds me a lot of Apple’s famous Mac vs. PC ads, which poked fun at Microsoft without getting nasty about it. In fact, because of it, I can't wait to see what Samsung's "Big Game" advertisement is like. When was the last time Apple made an ad to make us laugh? Indeed, it has been a long time.
