The iPad mini Retina Displays May Already Be In Production

According to Chinese tech website My Drivers, which cites sources at Apple iPad mini display supplier AU Optronics, mass production has begun on the screens for the second generation iPad mini.
Unsurprisingly, the screens are reported to be 2,048-by–1,536 Retina screens with a pixel density of 324. It is widely believed that the next iPad mini will sport a Retina display.
My Drivers has previously reported that the next generation iPad mini will come equipped with a Retina display, with a pixel density that exceeds the 264 ppi of the current fourth generation iPad with Retina.
Reports have suggested that the Retina iPad mini display could cost as much as $12 more than the current display, increasing Apple’s cost per unit to approximately $200. This has been confirmed by My Drivers’ report, which states that the new iPad mini costs $200 per unit, compared to $188 per unit for the current mini.
Though My Drivers does not offer a release date for the second generation iPad mini, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White has suggested that both the fifth generation iPad and the updated iPad mini will arrive in March. This is unconfirmed, however.
Just this past week Apple finally caught up with demand for the current iPad mini, which is now listed as “In Stock” in the online Apple Store. Increased supplies of the current iPad mini do not support hints of a March update, making a summer or fall update seem more likely.
