A German iTunes user recently downloaded the song “Monkey Drums.” In return, Apple gave him an iTunes Gift Card worth $13,500. The reason? Phillip Lüpke’s purchase was the 25 billionth song downloaded in the iTunes Store.
According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Service:
We are grateful to our users whose passion for music over the past 10 years has made iTunes the number one music retailer in the world. Averaging over 15,000 songs downloaded per minute, the iTunes Store connects music fans with their favorite artists, including global sensations like Adele and Coldplay and new artists like The Lumineers, on a scale we never imagined possible. The iTunes Store opened on April 28, 2003. Since then, it has grown and now offers users movies, TV shows, books, and naturally, apps. Take a listen to the song by Chase Buch that won Lüpke his amazing gift card right here.
