Spideo Is Like A Mood Ring For Movie Buffs
February 19, 2013
Finding a new movie to watch just got easier thanks to the new Spideo Instant Movie Discovery app for iPad. Now available in the App Store, the free app helps you find the best movies to watch according to your current mood.
After opening Spideo, you are asked to identify the type of movie you are most interested in viewing. This is done by selecting from any combination of 23 moods, including family, spectacular, suspense, and more.
As moods are selected, Spideo’s Wishes Discovery algorithm goes to work. Listings, which are updated immediately as moods are selected, and displayed via a beautiful photo-centric interface.
When you want to find out more about a movie, click on it and be prepared to be amazed. Each listing includes a summary, video clip, and links to similar content.
Spideo also provides links to where the movie can be purchased and/or rented. In its current form, this "Watch" feature is limited to iTunes. Future updates will include links to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and other providers, according to Spideo spokesperson.
As with most discovery services, Spideo only gets better with time. As you continue to rate movies, the app will begin offering recommendations. These show up under the app’s “Recommended for me” section. Spideo also includes a feature called "Highlights." It is here where movies and TV shows are listed that don't necessarily match your criteria.
In terms of the interface, Spideo has hit one out of the park. Not only is the interface intuitive, but it is simply gorgeous.
However, until the app’s Watch feature is improved, Spideo will remain behind Fanhattan. However, as a 1.1 release, Spideo is definitely worth a look, and I can't wait to see how it improves over the coming months.
Download it today in the App Store.
