The iPhone 5 Ranks Fifth In Customer Satisfaction In Crazy New Survey
February 11, 2013
OnDevice Research recently asked 320,000 smartphone and tablet users around the world how satisfied they were with their purchases. The results are surprising, and perhaps flawed.
The survey shows that in the U.S., the iPhone 5 ranks fifth in device satisfaction. As such, Apple’s flagship smartphone finished behind the Motorola Atrix HD, Motorola Droid Razr M, HTC Rezound 4G, and Samsung Galaxy Note 2. These four smartphones run Android.
In the U.K., the iPhone 5 ranks second behind the HTC One X.
Two points standout when analyzing this report. For one, there is no breakdown as to the number of respondents according to device. For example, the views of 2,500 Motorola Atrix HD users could be less representative of the market as a whole than 40,000 iPhone 5 users.
For another, the survey claims to have asked tablet owners their level of satisfaction. However, not one tablet made the survey. How is this possible?
Both of these points suggest that OnDevice’s sampling could be off.
