Exclusive: The Cheat Day Diet And Fitness App Arrives For iPhone

March 27, 2013

The cheat day concept has been one of the more interesting weight loss ideas to hit in recent years. With it, folks watch what they eat six days of the week. On the seventh day, which can be any day of the week, users can eat whatever they want.

Julian Aaron, a self-described fitness junky, believes so much in the cheat day concept that he recently began work on the closest thing to an official app. The appropriately named Cheat Day App is now available in the App Store.

The $1.99 app uses a simple tool to help folks kill junk food urges — journaling. When you see something you really want to eat, but can’t, take a photo of it with your iPhone’s camera. As the urges try to take over, look at that photo again. On your cheat day, reward yourself by actually eating that item (or multiple items), without feeling any sort of guilt.

According to Aaron,”delayed eating” has been proven to work, since it allows the user a once-a-week reward that is lacking from traditional dieting techniques.

To back up his claim, Aaron has included links to three very popular publications. These include Timothy Ferriss’ “The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman,” and “The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path to Cooking Like a Pro, Learning Anything, and Living the Good Life,” and John Romaniello’s “In Defense of Cheat Days.”

Aaron also believes that encouragement is key to any successful diet regiment. Because of this, the Cheat Day app includes social networking integration. As photos of foods are taken, a user can turn them into a collage. This group of photos can then be sent to others via Facebook, Twitter, and email.

This social integration, however, isn’t going to end with collages. Rather, it is only the foundation to bigger things to come.

In the future, the Cheat Day app will include social gateway tools, including a cheat day board, and a way for “cheaters” to compete with others.

“We really want to create a community,” according to Aaron.

Take a look:

I’ve been using the Cheat Day App for a number of weeks to help me lose weight. Does it work? The app certainly provided me with the tools to get over some of my long-standing dieting hurtles. I plan to continue using the app on a regular basis. In particular, I can’t wait to see what type of new social networking tools arrive with future app updates.

Whether the cheat day concept works for you, of course, is entirely up to your motivation.

The Cheat Day App is available for download here. AppAdvice has a limited number of promo codes available.
