Musician’s Corner: Access Your Membership On The Go With ASCAP Mobile

Welcome back to another edition of Musician’s Corner, where we discuss all things musical. Here, you will discover apps and accessories for musicians and music fans. Last week, we uncovered the secret to better drumming techniques with TheDrumDictionary. Have you been practicing your paradiddles?
This week, we have found an app for the working professional. If you have, or plan to have, your work published, you should be a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). If you are a member, you will enjoy the benefits of having ASCAP on the go with their mobile app.
ASCAP Mobile is a free app that lets users log into their membership account to have access to their personal profile tools. Plus, whether you are a member or not, you can keep up to date on ASCAP’s news, find a writer, and contact a publisher directly.
Members can log in to view and edit current contact information, review their entire ASCAP catalog, and see royalty statements. You can even access ASCAP OnStage to add your live performance to your account.
If you are not a member, but want to keep up to date on the latest ASCAP news, you can still see the top stories of the day, plus an interactive photo slider of current musical events.
You also have access to the organization’s ACE title search, where you can look up ASCAP members by typing in the writer’s name or published work title into the search bar. A writer’s publisher information is listed under their profile. You can contact the publisher directly by tapping the phone number or email address that is listed.
This app is fairly limited in its capabilities. However, updates are being made on a regular basis. If you aren’t an ASCAP member, this app is somewhat useless since it simply redirects you to the website whenever you click on the news articles.
If you are a member, or if you are looking for a writer in order to request permission to cover songs, ASCAP Mobile is a great app to have handy. It offers immediate access to some of ASCAP’s most useful tools.
Thanks for stopping by Musician’s Corner. If you have any suggestions for apps or accessories you think we should feature, just drop me a line or leave a comment below.
This week’s Question: Who wrote the original folk song, “Happy Birthday to You”?
