Verizon Reports iPhone Activations Of 4 Million Units During First Quarter

Earnings season has officially kicked off for the big three wireless carriers in the U.S., and for Apple. Verizon Wireless has announced first quarter iPhone activations of 4 million units. This beat estimates by 500,000 units. These numbers represent an 84 percent increase year-over-year.
The nation’s largest carrier added 667,000 new postpaid subscribers between January and March, or an increase of 35 percent. In total, 61 percent of Verizon’s customers now carried a smartphone, a new record. During the quarter, the carrier activated 7.2 million new smartphones.
Verizon saw sales hit $29.4 billion, with income rising to $4.8 billion.
AT&T will announce their own quarterly sales numbers on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 4:30 p.m. EDT. Apple’s conference call will follow at 5 p.m. EDT.
Sprint, the third largest carrier in the U.S., will announce first quarter earnings on Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 8 a.m. EDT.
