At WWDC, Apple announced a Web based extension to its iWork software suite called "iWork for iCloud." Users of Macs and PCs can create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and keynote presentations from within the browser. The Web versions seem to support all the features and functionality of the desktop and iOS apps, with the addition of drag and drop import of Microsoft Word files. From the demonstration, it appears that iWork for iCloud will function as a challenge to Google Docs, as well as a way to extend the reach of the iWork suites to PC users. It will be available today as a developer beta, with a public beta coming later this year.
