Hotwire Launches An iPad App For The Last Minute Traveler
June 27, 2013
Hotwire.com, a leading discount travel site, has announced the immediate release of its first iPad app. The free app allows travelers to find and purchase last-minute hotel deals on their tablet, and launches less than a year after the Hotwire Hotels app first arrived for the iPhone/iPod touch.
The now-universal Hotwire Hotels app was built with one goal in mind: to find customers the best deals in the shortest amount of time. As a result, the app puts much emphasis on ease of use, speed, and savings.
According to Pierre-Etienne Chartier, vice president of the Hotwire Group:
By default, the app will find hotels closest to your current location. However, you can add any location in the search field. Next, select your requested check-in and checkout dates, plus the number of rooms that you’ll need, and number of guests.
Search results are displayed on an interactive map, as well as listed on the left side of the screen. Results may be sorted by price, distance, value, and number of stars. You can also filter the results by minimum star rating, and recommendation percentage.
Once you find a location that matches your criteria, click on it. From there, you’ll see more information about the location including customer reviews, and amenities.
Like the Hotwire.com site itself, actual hotel names are not listed anywhere in the app. However, the interactive map does give you a pretty good idea where the hotel is located.
Once you find a location, click “Continue” to enter your payment information. Once this is received, you will receive a confirmation notice with the name and address of the booked hotel.
Delivering hotel savings in over 3,145 cities across 61 countries, the Hotwire Hotels app is available now in the App Store.
The trend to book on-the-go, last-minute and via a mobile device is only going to grow as travelers continue to realize that the best savings on discount travel sites can be found on the day of arrival. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future mobile overtakes desktop completely when it comes to travelers primary purchase source, so now was the perfect time to launch a fast and easy to use iPad app.
