Virgin Mobile To Soon Offer The iPhone 5 As A Prepaid Device
June 21, 2013
Prepaid wireless provider Virgin Mobile USA will soon be selling the iPhone 5. The device will be available for as little as $550 without a contract.
The iPhone 5 will be available through Virgin Mobile’s website and at Radio Shack retail store locations. The company uses Sprint’s national network. It began selling the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S as prepaid devices in June 2012.
Prices, before taxes, are as follows:
Virgin Mobile offers three voice plans, each which includes “unlimited” data. These include a 300-minute plan for $35, 1,200 minutes for $45, and an unlimited plan for $55. Although unlimited, the company's data plan only guarantees “3G/4G full speed” for the first 2.5GB. Virgin Mobile's move comes just months before Apple is expected to reveal the seventh-generation iPhone. Code-named the "iPhone 5S," this model is expected to look like the current model, with some improvements on the inside. A budget iPhone could also be coming later this year.
