Apple Could Soon Release iOS 7 Beta 5 And OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 5
August 5, 2013
It’s entirely possible that Apple will release iOS 7 beta 5 later today. Yes, just one week after Cupertino dropped the fourth beta to developers.
Since June 10, Apple had been releasing iOS 7 betas every other Monday. This schedule was disrupted in late July when a security breach forced Apple to shutdown its developer site for eight days. As a result, the fourth iOS 7 beta 4 arrived on July 29, rather than a week earlier.
Going back to iPhone OS 2.0, Apple has released at least five beta versions. The last time a sixth beta was needed was in 2011 with iOS 5. That update ultimately required seven betas before Apple released a final version to the public.
If Apple plans on keeping to its original launch schedule, iOS 7 beta 5 would arrive today, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. PDT. This would allow Cupertino to release a sixth beta, if needed, on Aug. 19, with a gold master version to follow during the week of Sept. 2.
We’ve heard rumors in recent days that Apple plans on announcing the next-generation iPhone the week of Sept. 9. For this to happen, Apple would be wise to stick to its original iOS 7 beta launch schedule.
Another issue is OS X Mavericks. Developer previews for OS X 10.9 have followed the same release schedule as iOS 7. However, unlike iOS 7, Developer Preview 4 did arrive on Monday, July 22.
Therefore, at the minimum, we should see a new developer release later today for OS X Mavericks.
As usual, we’ll keep you updated.
