Best Buy To Offer The Entry Level iPhone 5c Model For Free

September 19, 2013
Best Buy is offering what appears to be a terrific deal on the new iPhone 5c. In reality, it isn’t. Beginning tomorrow, Sept. 20, the retailer is offering the entry-level iPhone 5c for absolutely free. The catch: You must trade in your iPhone 4/4s, and also be eligible for an upgrade. You will also need to sign a new 2-year contract with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. And tax and activation fees are extra. Best Buy’s offering is only a deal for those looking for a convenient way to unload an old phone while also buying a new one. However, it really isn’t a deal for those hoping to maximize their trade-in. Most places are buying old iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s models for much more that $99, which is the price Apple is charging for the 16GB iPhone 5c. For example, through tomorrow, NextWorth is offering $200 for iPhone 4s models, regardless of its condition. Gazelle is offering similar deals, as our most recent price check confirmed. Best Buy does say that if your current phone is worth more than $99, it will issue a gift card to make up the difference. Whether that difference will be as high as $100 is unknown. Our advice: Lock in an online quote on your old iPhone today. That way, you can make a better informed decision before arriving at Best Buy. Apple retail stores and third-party vendors will begin selling the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, beginning tomorrow, Sept. 20 at 8 a.m. local time. In addition, Apple will open online iPhone 5s orders at 12:01 a.m. PDT tomorrow morning in those same countries. Via: USA Today
