Leaked Specs Reveal A Thinner Bezel Design For Apple’s iPad 5

September 27, 2013
We’ve heard for many months that the iPad 5 will be thinner than its predecessor. Now, AppleInsider has published a series of design documents, which continues with that narrative. The specs are apparently the ones case and cover manufacturers are using to design their new products. According to the report, the fifth-generation iPad will measure “exactly 169.48 millimeters wide, shaving more than 15 millimeters off the width of the fourth-generation iPad." Likewise, “Thickness of the next iPad is also expected to be reduced, going from 9.55 millimeters to 7.5 millimeters.” The next iPad is also expected to be lighter than the iPad 4, “helping to make the 9.7-inch tablet more portable.” What won’t change are the main elements of the device, including the home button, forward-facing FaceTime camera, or lock button. Finally, the placement of the headphone jack and microphone “on top of the device are all expected to stay largely the same.” Apple used to be very good at keeping secrets. However, that isn’t the case in the Tim Cook era. Rumors about a thinner iPad 5 have remained consistent for nearly a year. In other words, don’t be surprised if the specs presented here are right on the mark. Cupertino is largely expected to announce an iPad event in the coming weeks.
