Four Original Live Action Superhero Series From Marvel Are Coming To Netflix In 2015

November 7, 2013
In 2015, Netflix will begin airing four live-action superhero series from one of the biggest names in the genre, Disney's Marvel. The new deal also includes an “Avengers”-style miniseries. The first of the series will focus on Daredevil, while the other series will feature Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Each series will include 13 episodes. Each series will be set in Hell’s Kitchen, New York, and will take place over several years. The miniseries will star each of the four characters and be called “The Defenders.” According to Alan Fine, president of Marvel Entertainment:
This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.
This isn't the first pact between Netflix and Marvel. In 2012, it was announced that beginning in 2016, Netflix will be the only place to watch Marvel’s movies immediately after they leave theaters. Netflix is getting very aggressive in providing original content to its subscribers. This year alone, the company released the Emmy Award-Winning “House of Cards,” and the critically acclaimed “Orange Is The New Black.” The streaming video service also released a new season of “Arrested Development.” New seasons of each of these series will air on Netflix in 2014.
