Finding And Sharing Local Deals Is More Personal With Photopon 2.0
December 19, 2013
Photopon 2.0 combines two popular activities: social networking and finding local deals. The end result is something truly unique.
First released in April as a photo-sharing tool, Photopon now turns “your FoodSpotting photos into real coupons.” It does so by using the iOS device's location services to find nearby deals.
From there, you attach a personal photo, and write a message. This personalized coupon can then be shared through the app, email, text messages, and social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter.
Recipients can redeem the coupon for a great deal and a new experience.
“Photopon is a clever way to invite people out, make plans or even joke around with friends,” said Michael Gutkin, co-founder and CFO of Photopon, Inc. “There are plenty of deals out there, but Photopon provides the only coupons that are open to creativity and flair. This means that a Photopon referral can be relevant and unique in ways that normal digital deals or paper coupons cannot be.”
The new service is powered by deals from individual businesses and aggregators like 8coupons. This ensures that Photopon coupons can be made in every U.S. Zip code. Future updates will bring a rewards system that will give users points when friends redeem one of their coupons. These points will unlock special deals and free perks from participating merchants.
Photopon’s new coupon system is definitely unlike anything else currently on the market. It also works. I found it simple to use, and also a lot of fun. It will be interesting to see how it develops over time.
The free (and universal) Photopon app is available for download in the App Store.
