Nokia Pulls 'Here Maps' From The App Store

December 27, 2013
It looks like Nokia has pulled the plug on Here Maps for iOS. After only a year on the App Store, Nokia has decided to remove the app due to changes in iOS 7. It's unfortunate that there will be one less navigation app for iOS devices, but I won't miss Here Maps too much. Apple has improved iOS Maps a lot since its release and hopefully they'll continue to build on its features. While there are no specific details on Nokia's decision, the company has offered a basic statement about Here Maps' removal according to The Indian Express (via Engadget):
We have made the decision to remove our HERE Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience. iPhone users can continue to use the mobile web version of HERE Maps under m.here.com, offering them location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge.
As mentioned above, Nokia's Here Maps service is still available through its mobile site, but is it really worth the trouble? The fact is, even if you still hate iOS Maps, there are plenty of alternatives on the App Store. As a reminder, if you still have Here Maps installed on your device, the app should remain functional. You'll just have to make sure that it's backed up via iTunes in case it accidentally gets deleted. Are you going to miss Here Maps for iOS?
