Apple Sneaks In An Easter Egg On The 30th Anniversary Of The Mac
January 24, 2014
Apple’s special “Thirty Years of Innovation” page to celebrate the Mac anniversary comes with a surprise. Greg Barbosa, an iOS developer and hacker, has uncovered an Easter egg on the site. With it, users can install a custom font that depicts each Mac model from the past three decades.
Apple is implementing Private Use Areas in these icons, which explains why regularly typing won’t make them come up. pic.twitter.com/HWBBrXeR0L — Greg Barbosa (@gregbarbosa) January 24, 2014As TechCrunch first noted:
The font uses special private characters so once installed, you won’t be able to just type to use it as you would a normal font, but you can copy and paste the different models from the OS X Font Book application and paste them into other applications. It’s a beautifully designed collection of Macs throughout the years reduced to simple, elegant line drawings, and there’s no telling how long it’ll remain available for download, so if you’re interested in having the collection for private use, it’s probably best to grab it now.To download the special font collection, click here.
