It’s finally here. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games are set to begin in Sochi, Russia. Here are the apps you should download right now to watch the competition:
NBC Sports Live Extra
If you’re in the United States, this is the must-have app for Olympics fans. The app is free and available for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. To watch live coverage, however, you’ll need to be a cable, satellite, or telco TV service subscriber.
Note: NBC will not offer live coverage of Friday’s opening ceremonies via the app.
NBC Olympics Highlights and Results
You guessed it, this is the app NBC is offering for Olympics fans that don’t subscribe to a television service. The free app serves up video highlights, news, and photos.
Sochi 2014 Guide and Sochi 2014 Results
These apps are being provided by the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee and have been designed for an international audience. The apps offer great customization features to help you cheer on your favorite team.
ESPN SportsCenter
The Walt Disney Co. tried to obtain the rights for the Sochi 2014 games. That didn’t work out for the mouse house. Therefore, the ESPN SportsCenter app will offer little more than news and scores from Russia. Still, this is a great app to have when in a pinch.
The 2014 Winter Olympic Games run through Feb. 23. The 2014 Paralympic Winter Games run March 7-16.
