Clinq for iPad, $1.99, iPad app

This app is best described as Mixology 101. It uses visual ratios, rather than measures to help perfect 140 cocktail recipes. A $0.99 iPhone version is also available.

"The Giving Tree," $10.99, E-Book

Shel Silverstein’s iconic children’s book turns 50 this year. As part of the celebration, it is being made available as an e-book for the first time.

Tengami, $4.99, Universal game

Christine Chan calls Tengami “one of the most phenomenal games I’ve played so far this year, and the visuals and soundtrack make it worth the $5 price tag alone.” I would agree, and have added Tengami to my early list of the best apps of 2014.

PhotoMotion, $0.99, iPhone app

This app comes from the creators of PhotoToaster, but don’t call it a photo-editing app. Rather, PhotoMotion is an app that lets you create videos with all the photos you’ve edited. The result are look-back style videos sure to impress.

"Gravity," $5.99, Movie rental (available Feb. 25)

The Academy Award Best Picture nominee finally arrives as a rental on Tuesday, Feb. 25. It stars Best Actress nominee (and past winner) Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Of course, it’s out of this world.

"56: Joe DiMaggio and the Last Magic Number in Sports," $2.99, E-Book

First published in 2012, this book about the great Yankee centerfielder is a perfect choice as spring ball is set to begin.
